From Music Scene Chicago, IL by Daphne Robinson July 4, 1997 http://www.muscene.com/oldies.htm --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Midway - Poole Hall Sessions - Midway Music Midway is a band from Virginia that plays guitar driver power pop. How many times have we heard that before? Well this time it is true and they are quite good too. The band has been together for several years which adds to their fluidity. When they first got together they were known as Watershed. A change in lineup and in name transformed the band into Midway. Their first release as Midway, an ep, is "Poole Hall Sessions." If you like bands like Tugboat Annie or Longpigs, Midway will appeal to you. They have an openness about them that you wouldn't really consider if you hadn't heard of them. "Closer to twenty-five" and "Easier to Lie" are cool songs. It is not too harsh and not to timid. This is rock for music for the listener who is more difficult to win over. The band sounds as though they are singing in front of people they are comfortable with as opposed to trying too hard and over doing it. Grade: B
